NEWTOWN, Ohio – Miami Valley Christian Academy volleyball turned in a strong all-around performance Tuesday night, sweeping Purcell Marian in three sets inside the MVCA Upper School Gymnasium.
The Lions controlled the opening set, cruising to a 25-11 victory to take an early advantage. Purcell Marian challenged MVCA in a tighter second set, but the Lions held off the Cavaliers, 25-21, before closing the match with another convincing 25-11 win in the third.
MVCA was efficient offensively throughout the night, finishing with 33 kills on 59 attacks and hitting .458 as a team.
Ruth Pryor led the Lions with eight kills while hitting .538. Vivian Bell and Evelyn Merling also recorded eight kills apiece, with both hitting .400. Ayla DeBra added four kills on seven attempts for a .571 hitting percentage.
The Lions were especially effective from the service line. Kate Conn led the way with 10 aces and scored 23 points on serve. Bell and Pryor added four aces apiece, while DeBra and Lillian Erickson each contributed three. MVCA finished with 27 service aces as a team.
Conn also directed the offense with 14 assists, while DeBra added 10. Erickson led the Lions defensively with four digs as MVCA totaled 18 digs in the match.
The victory improved MVCA to 2-3 on the season. The Lions returned to action the following night at home against Northwest.
