NEWTOWN, Ohio – Miami Valley Christian Academy volleyball earned its second victory in as many nights Wednesday, defeating Northwest 3-1 inside the MVCA Upper School Gymnasium.
The Lions came out firing in the opening set, racing past the Knights for a 25-10 victory. MVCA carried that momentum into the second set and continued to control play, taking it 25-11 to build a 2-0 advantage.
Northwest responded in the third, handing the Lions a 25-21 setback to extend the match. MVCA answered in the fourth, regaining control and closing out the Knights with a 25-16 victory to secure the match.
Ruth Pryor led the Lions offensively with a match-high 12 kills. Vivian Bell added eight kills while hitting .300, and also made an impact defensively at the net with three total blocks. Reagan Meyer added three kills and two blocks.
MVCA once again put significant pressure on its opponent from the service line, finishing with 22 aces. Bell led the way with seven aces, while Pryor recorded five. Kate Conn and Ayla DeBra each added four.
Conn directed the Lions' offense with 14 assists, while DeBra contributed 10. Bell and DeBra each recorded five digs to lead MVCA, with Ava Ard and Conn adding four apiece.
As a team, the Lions finished with 32 kills, 26 assists, 29 digs, 22 service aces and six total blocks.
The victory improved MVCA to 3-3 on the season and 3-0 at home. The Lions next travel to Bethel-Tate on Monday, Aug. 31.
