CINCINNATI, Ohio — Miami Valley Christian Academy Boys Golf turned in a strong performance at the 2026 MVC Championship, finishing fourth out of eight teams with a two-round score of 687.
The Lions opened the championship with a 352 before improving by 17 strokes in the final round, posting a 335. MVCA finished just one stroke behind Seven Hills for third place.
Roger Bacon captured the team championship with a 606, followed by CHCA at 612 and Seven Hills at 686. MVCA's 687 placed the Lions ahead of Cincinnati Country Day, Summit Country Day, Cincinnati Christian and Norwood.
French Earns Second Team All-MVC
Garrett French led the Lions across the two rounds, opening with an 82 before carding an 80 in the final round for a 162 total.
French finished tied for 11th individually, earning Second Team All-MVC honors.
The performance also continued French's progression at the conference championship. He shot an 86 at the 2025 MVC Championship before improving on that mark in both rounds this season.
Gatts Breaks 80 for First Time
Julian Gatts provided one of the highlights of the championship with a career-best performance in the final round.
After opening with an 89, Gatts came back with a 78, breaking 80 for the first time in his career. His 11-stroke improvement between rounds helped propel MVCA to its 335 final-round team score.
The round also represented a dramatic year-over-year jump for Gatts, who shot a 111 at the 2025 conference championship.
Davis Musuraca contributed to the team score in both rounds, shooting 87 and 89 for a 176 total.
MVCA's scoring four in the opening round were French at 82, Musuraca at 87, Gatts at 89 and Jack Frazee at 94. In the final round, Gatts led the way with his 78, followed by French at 80, Jeb Stagnaro at 88 and Musuraca at 89.
Major Improvement From 2025
The Lions' performance showed significant growth from the previous conference championship.
MVCA recorded a 391 team score at the 2025 MVC Championship, with French's 86 leading the Lions.
This season, MVCA opened with a 352, 39 strokes better than last year's championship score, before lowering that number to 335 in the final round, a 56-stroke improvement from the 2025 mark.
That progression helped MVCA move into the top half of the conference standings and finish only one stroke away from third place.
