NEWTOWN, Ohio — Miami Valley Christian Academy Volleyball opened the 2026 season with a battle, defeating Middletown Christian 3–2 inside the Upper School Gymnasium on Aug. 18.
The Lions grabbed the first two sets, 25–13 and 26–24, before Middletown Christian responded with wins in the third and fourth sets to force a decisive fifth. MVCA regrouped when it mattered most, taking the final set 15–10 to secure the season-opening victory.
Sophomore Ruth Pryor delivered an all-around performance for the Lions, finishing with 14 kills, 20 digs and four service aces. Her 14 kills and 20 digs both ranked among the top marks in the Miami Valley Conference in the early season.
Senior Kate Conn helped direct the MVCA offense while making a major impact from the service line, recording 26 assists and six aces. Sophomore Ayla DeBra added 16 assists.
At the net, the Lions also received contributions from Vera Bell and Reagan Meyer, who were each credited with three blocks, while Pryor and DeBra added two apiece. Bell finished with 13 kills, giving MVCA another strong attacking option alongside Pryor.
After controlling the opening two sets, MVCA was forced to respond when Middletown Christian evened the match at two sets apiece. The Lions did exactly that in the fifth, closing out the 15–10 win to begin the year 1–0.
